It looks like the film version took Cusslers book and cut it to shreds leaving only what was necessary to make the story work and changed a lot of the characters around to make the plot simpler.About the Book The first volume of a massive book on the making of Raise the Titanic, the movie. Though I liked the film version there was a lot of interesting stuff in the books that was sadly left out of the film which I think would’ve made the film a box office hit if handled with more care.

Just to give a quick review of the book, I think the book Raise the Titanic is superior to the film version. Like in the book I’ve got three littering the wreck site and the stern most stack laying across the boat deck.īased on some basic illustrations from the book I’ve also left her with half her foremast and stern mast. She’s also missing all her stacks, though the official story said she only lost the forward smoke stack I guess it was assumed the others were ripped away due to the force of the water as she fell to the bottom. I’ve got the boilers littering the wreck site as they were in the book. The noise was assumed to have been the boilers breaking loose at this high angle and falling through the ship punching a hole in the bow, with the boilers missing the lighter Titanic fell back to a shallow angle before going under –we now know this was actually the ship breaking up. There is a massive hole in the Titanic’s bow because according to the book –which was based off the official sinking story at the time which I’ve illustrated here - after the lights went there was a crashing noise as the Titanic reached a high angle of nearly 90 degrees. The wreck is very different from the wreck of today because the book was written in the 70’s while Titanic was found in 1985 and before the wrecks discovery it was accepted that the ship sank intact. I’ve just got to the part in the Clive Cussler book Raise the Titanic where Dirk Pitt and his crew discover the wreck on the ocean floor.
